Public Sector Equality Duty: How Sacred Heart Complies

Equality at Sacred Heart Catholic School

At Sacred Heart Catholic School, our commitment to equality is rooted in our Catholic faith and the belief that every person is created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27). Guided by the Gospel and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, we recognise the inherent dignity and worth of every individual and strive to create a community in which every member is known, valued, respected and able to flourish.

As a Catholic school serving a diverse community, we welcome and respect people of all backgrounds, faiths and beliefs. We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion, compassion and mutual respect, where differences are celebrated and everyone is encouraged to realise their God-given potential.

Sacred Heart Catholic School is committed to fulfilling its duties under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) as set out in the Equality Act 2010. In carrying out our mission, we have due regard to the need to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010;
  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not; and
  • foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

These statutory duties are fully consistent with our Catholic mission to promote the common good, uphold the dignity of every person and build a school community founded on justice, compassion, reconciliation and love.
