Catholic Ethos

The Church is bound as a mother to give to these children of hers an education by which their whole life can be imbued with the spirit of Christ and at the same time do all she can to promote for all peoples the complete perfection of the human person, the good of earthly society and the building of a world that is more human. Gravissimum Educationis 3

We are all part of the one Church (parents, teachers governors parishioners)and it is within our roles as parents and teachers that we support and guide our children on their spiritual journey to wholeness. The children within our care here at Sacred Heart will always be directed to fully engage in their relationship with God and help grow as individuals who fully understand their vocation in life. The pupils can not reach their full human potential without exploring the issues of faith that lie at the heart of their being. In a world that seems broken and centred on individual wants our pupils need more than ever to have grounds for hope that their faith can guide and protect them throughout the coming years.

Prayer

There are aspects of being a member of a Catholic school that your child will be expected to follow. Prayer life is very important to our school and pupils are expected to fully participate in all prayer time. This is also to be done with the right attitude of reverence and respect. Every day there will be a time of prayer and reflection during assemblies, tutor times and class times. Every half term the year group will attend mass at the Sacred Heart Church. This is an important time for the pupils to come together and to share their faith and build up community.

Another vital aspect of Sacred Heart School is the belief that faith can not simply be words and intentions but must be put into action. This means that our children’s behaviour should mirror their faith commitment. Doing the right thing at the right time for the right reasons is as much about the Christian faith as going to mass or praying.

During their time here the pupils will have numerous opportunities to explore their faith and to share with others their thoughts and feelings about what it means to be a Christian. There will be an opportunity to go away on retreat which has always proved incredibily rewarding for those who attend.

Charity

What lies at the heart of being a Christian is living out the words of Jesus to love God and to love our neighbour. Recognising our neighbours is important but going out of our way to help them is an important part of our Christian mission. To this extent we here at sacred heart put the words of Jesus into action by helping those neighbours close at hand and those neighbours further a field.
Every year we have a Tea dance for the local elderly; the pupils collect for and deliver hampers to the local community at Christmas.
Every two years now we travel to Thailand to help in an Orphanage. This year we had a joint School Parish Pilgrimage to Lourdes in France. Our pupils are never without opportunities to put their fantastic faith into fantastic action.

Sacred Heart School is a Community of faith that seeks to proclaim the Gospel and ‘to touch the hearts of the hearers and turn them to God’. Over the next five years we hope that together we can enhance the experience of your children and bring them to maturity both in heart and mind.
