Peer Mediation Scheme

To train and provide on-going support/supervision for Peer Medaitors. Mediators are chosen and start training in Year 9. They volunteer themselves, are individually interviewed by Delia Rolls and then in conjunction with Form Tutors and Directors of Learning the final team are selected.

The Mediators are then trained in mediation skills to offer a service to other pupils who may be experiencing difficulties through their peers. The training includes developing excellent listening and empathy skills. The mediators are also taught the importance of body language, eye contact and the ability to be non-judgemental.

The Mediation Scheme at Sacred Heart has been the focus of much atttention from Norway. As a result of visiting the school and learning about the scheme, schools in Norway now have a Mediation Programme which is funded by the Norweigian Government.
