Homework

Homework

The Sacred Heart School is totally committed to homework viewing it as a crucially important and integral part of the educational offer being made to all our pupils. Therefore it expects all teaching staff to regularly set and mark homework. It expects all pupils to complete each set task by the stated date and to the highest standard of which an individual is capable.

Aims of homework

  1. To raise levels of academic achievement
  2. To encourage individual learning and study and thereby enhance pupil autonomous learning.
  3. To extend work being done in the classroom and so re-enforce learning.
  4. To make it possible to cover all the work required at KS3 and KS4 of the National Curriculum and thereby ensure examination success.

Amount of homework

Lower School

  1. Homework should be set according to the published "Homework Timetables". This will be sent home to parents, written into each diary and displayed prominently around the school.
  2. Year 7 - in accordance with the Timetable all non core subjects should set homework of at least 30 minutes duration once a week. English, Mathematics and Science should be set two pieces of homework each week.

Years 8 & 9 - in accordance with the Timetable all subjects should set homework of at least one hour duration once a week.

Upper School

  1. As a result of the nature of Upper School courses it is judged to be impractical to set down a rigid "Homework Timetable". However teachers should expect pupils to complete a significant amount of work at home in their subject each week.
