Charity Week
Charity Week is the time of year when the whole of Sacred Heart raises money for Pattaya Orphanage in Thailand. No money is spent on our school funds, but every single penny is spent on the orphans (aged 5-18). Charity Week consists of many activities, such as ‘Sponge a Teacher', Food Sales, Jewellery sales and much more. Our main event, which is at the end of Charity Week, is ‘Bridge Walk'; where the majority of pupils get sponsored to walk 8 bridges in London. This is a time where a lot of money is raised as nearly every pupil gets sponsored. At the end of Charity Week, our head teacher counts all the money, and tells us the final amount. This money then gets added to the Pattaya Orphanage fund which is used to fund a trip to the Orphanage every two years where Sacred Heart pupils personally deliver the money and volunteer at the Orphanage. In 2009, the amount raised was over £20 000! Every pupil gets involved, which is quite amazing seeing that we have over 600 pupils in this school. Pupils and staff will be going back to Thailand in October 2011, which is why this week is very important as this is the last Charity Week before then.

Charity Week- Hospital Visit
On Thursday 17th March about 20 students from Sacred Heart School went to Kings College Hospital, London. They met three chaplains all of whom were of different faiths and they talked to us about how their services are vital for sick patients. They were told how the Sanctuary at the hospital was a little breathing space for grievers and the mournful. As the students listened, they felt a sense of awe and were overcome with sorrow. They were then shown the book of remembrance and they all went silent, some of us looked to see who died and was to be remembered on our birthdays and the others sat down and reflected in silence. The students were taken in two groups to see the paediatric ward and see how it has been adapted for the children to feel at home. At the end of their visit, one student said ‘This is a trip I for one would always remember and I hope sincerely that if this opportunity comes up again, I will grab it by the throat!'

Year 8
| Pattaya Orphanage
Thailand is a place we go every 2 years. We go to Pattaya Orphanage. We go to give to the less fortunate because as a community of Catholics, we believe that giving to people that are less fortunate, is like making a new life and making the orphans feel special.
We also make sure to buy things for the children like clothes, toys and food; we also work on the field, cutting grass to make a field for the kids to play. As well as buying them things, we also take them out to the tiger zoo to see tigers and it is an enjoyable experience for both us and the children. To raise money, we have a charity week, when each form organises an event to raise money. For example, in 8P, we organised a tug of war which you had to pay 50p to take part but even though it did not go to plan, it was still very, very enjoyable.
These are just of the pictures were we have Mr Bourke, the history teacher by day but when trouble erupts, he turns into SUPERMAN!!!! And also Mr Lee cutting off his beloved hair and now it's short and WEIRD!!!!!
These are just what teachers do; they embarrass themselves trying to be like superman and cut of their beloved hair just in the name of charity. Some of the children have experienced things that no living child should experience, but they get back from this and to see the smile on their face. We do this not to impress but make a child feel happy, add a special touch or light in to their hearts! It is truly remarkable. Written by Sam 8P |

Sacred Heart School Bridge Walk
On Sunday the 20th of March, 446 Sacred Heart pupils and members of staff embarked on a bridge walk. As one community we participate in a sponsored walk on eight bridges to raise money for the Pattaya Orphanage in Thailand. The walk started at 10:00am from Tower Bridge ended at Vauxhall Bridge at 3:30. Many of us were tired but we carried on. This is because we wanted to live our faith as people from Christian families. Pupils and members of staff motivated each other through the walk; this showed a strong bond of unity. In our vast numbers we went home to reflect on the day and also to get more sponsors. Year 11's v Year 10's v Teachers Charity Football Event
24th March 2011
Yesterday the Year 11's and 10's formed different teams and went head to head with teachers at football for charity week. Each team member had to pay £2 to play. You would also have to pay 20p to watch. But don't worry the whole entire money goes straight to our charity in Pattaya, Thailand!
These are one of the few events that take part in Sacred Heart for Charity Week. Sacred Heart does these things to take money to Thailand to feed and clothe the orphanage.
A lot of teachers found this event really interesting because it lets the teacher get sportier and engage more with the pupils and what they do.
Unfortunately for the Year 10's and the Year 11s, they lost to the teachers in this event, but apart from that everyone enjoyed themselves, it was a very close and intensive final between the Year 11 team and the teachers. But although the year 11s lost they showed good sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Mr Palmer, one of the members of the wining team, had this to say, ‘it was a fantastic event a wonderful turn out, the teachers over powered the students, but the students put up a good fight.'

Year 8 did a house competition for Charity Week called the Mini Olympics. This is an event which is part of charity week and you are separated into your houses. The houses are: Cabrini in Gold, Magdalene in Red, Bosco in Blue and Beckett in black. For the Mini Olympics, each participant pays 20p to take part and the audience pays 20p to watch and the money raised goes straight to our sponsored orphanage in Pattaya, Thailand. It was a close and intensive competition between the two main houses, Cabrini and Magdalene, but in the end Magdalene was victorious.
as a team. Everyone who took part showed good sportsmanship towards each other and never complained. Although it was for charity, the atmosphere was intense because this event carried House Points which go towards the overall house competition.
