Welcome to the Information & Communication Technology Department
Importance of ICT
The increasing use of technology in all aspects of society makes confident and productive use of ICT essential for everybody. In Sacred Heart we incorporate the use of computers and technology across the whole curriculum. For example pupils may use ICT to write up their History coursework, sound recording technology in their music lessons, create graphs in Maths and videos in English. For young learners technology is part and parcel of their everyday lives. As a school we endeavour to increase pupil’s capability in the use of ICT and support them to become confident and independent users of a wide range of technologies.
Aims
The ICT department aims to give pupils many of the skills needed to make informed judgements about when and where to use ICT to enhance their learning and the quality of their work in order for pupils to achieve their full potential. We offer discreet lessons to years 7, 8 and 9 where pupils become familiar with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desk top publishing, presentation software and web design software.

Parents
It is vital for parents to support their children in the use of ICT in a productive and safe manner. This helps to support their learning and achievement across the whole curriculum.
Achievements
- In 2008 over one hundred pupils in Year 9 were entered for a half GCSE in ICT and 79% of them achieved an A*-C. This is quite remarkable for such young students. Congratulations to them and they can carry this achievement with them for the rest of their lives.
- In 2009 the first GCSE group for DIDA finished with 90% A*-C grades which is worth two GCSEs.
