Many other students have also received offers to study at top universities, including York, University College London, Sheffield, Nottingham, Surrey and Sussex.

"This is wonderful news," said Headteacher Mr Serge Cefai. "Our pupils have received some brilliant offers to the very top universities. We are very proud of them and confident they will go on to achieve the necessary grades to secure their places."

Sacred Heart school also received some other good news, when the Department for Education published their recent GCSE league tables, confirming that the school has topped the borough rankings for the ninth time in the last ten years. "Our return has now been confirmed as 90% of our pupils achieving 5 A*-C WITH English and Maths, and 58% achieving EBacc recognition," said Mr Cefai. "This outcome is our best ever. I would also like to mention our sister school St Thomas the Apostle College whose results have leaped 31% to 73% 5 A*-C including English and Maths with the EBacc figure at a very healthy 35% (surely one of the most improved set of results in the country). Our schools now lie 1st and 4th respectively in Southwark."
