All year 8 pupils who study Spanish were treated to a Salsa workshop in the summer term. Before beginning, pupils were taught about the origins and history of salsa and they were shown the typical instruments which are used in salsa music. Then the dancing began! Firstly, pupils learnt the basic salsa rhythm and steps in separate male/female groups. After they were feeling confident, they were allowed to dance in partners. Well done to Junior for being the first and only boy to invite a girl to dance! Once the pairs were coupled up, pupils were taught how to do turns and more complex steps. We hope that the experience showed the Y8 pupils a different side to language learning, as culture is a very important aspect of the MFL curriculum.
