London Schools Athletics Championships Year 7 & 8 2016
14th June 2016
The year 7 and 8 Southwark borough team attended the annual London Athletics Championships at Mile End Stadium. Sacred Heart was well represented at the event with three year 7 Boys; Denzil Osei-Dapaa 7P (100m & Relay), Nosakhare Osazee 7B (100M, Shot Put & Relay) & Jonathan Grant 7C (Shot put & Discus). Four year 8 Boys; Patrick Amon (80m Hurdles & High Jump), George Okolo (Shot Put), Justice Okolo (Discus) & Jovel Jackson-Davis (Long Jump). Two year 8 Girls; Ashleigh Wallace (200m) & Angel Atano (Discus).
The students came with high hopes and in awful conditions performed to the best of their ability, with Ashleigh Wallace making the 200m final and a number of high placed finishes in the field events.
Undoubtedly though the highlight of the day was seeing Patrick Amon take home not one, but two Gold medals. In the High Jump he cleared 1.56m which has not been achieved for many years at London Schools and in an extremely competitive hurdles final he arrived late to win over the last hurdle in a very exciting race.
Next year these athletes will be eligible for London Schools selection at Junior level and be able to attend the English Schools National Championships. Keep up the hard work and positive attitude and we can look forward to many more successes.
