Attendance and Punctuality
There is a clear link between school attendance and achievement. Nationwide, statistics show that only 12% of pupils with below 80% school attendance achieve five or more GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and Maths, compared to 68% for pupils with attendance greater than 95%.
As a consequence of this link, we take attendance and punctuality extremely seriously at Sacred Heart Catholic School.
Our attendance and punctuality figures are very high and we constantly monitor these figures for all pupils. We take a zero tolerance approach towards lateness and undertake significant interventions for pupils who persistently arrive late for school or are persistently absent.
Requests for leave of absence for pupils can only be granted if there are exceptional circumstances, and holidays are not considered exceptional. Requests for leave must also be made to the Headteacher in writing and in advance of any absence.
We expect students to attend school every day and arrive at 8.30am ready for line-up at 8.35am. If they arrive after this then they are marked as late.
If your child is going to be absent or unavoidably late to school you must inform the school office by ringing 0207 274 6844. Upon return to school students should bring an absence note to their form tutor.
If students arrive at school at 9am or afterwards they must sign in at the front office.
